I wrote about 600 words today on two projects. I like both of these ideas, but I'm not sure I can make either one of them a story. One is a weird crime that hinges on a reversal of a euphemism about graveyards and coffins, and it has the potential for some Evil Dead-like craziness. The other is a dark fantasy about a record store that allows people, under the right psychedelic conditions, to slip into a dangerous world just beyond ours. The dark fantasy one really speaks to me right now, especially considering my recent fascinations with jazz and progressive rock.
I have other ideas kicking around as well, and I find that all really, really good stuff. When my head is swimming with ideas, they tend to bounce and riff off one another, and eventually something will gel and become a story.
I think my newsletter for May will be about taking breaks, breaking the guilt cycle, taking care of your mind, body, and spirit, and sometimes just not giving a fuck about anything.
In the mean time, I'll be typing out a few words here and there, playing guitar, listening to kickass jazz and prog rock, and letting my mind wander where ever it wants to go.
