ObscuraJournal 1/6/26
My hardcover edition of The Golden Dawn: The Original Account of the Teachings, Rites, and Ceremonies of the Hermetic Order by Israel Regardie arrived today. It weighs about 10 pounds. 900 plus pages of the driest, meticulously notated, lectures of the rites and ceremonies of the Golden Dawn. This book is like an instruction manual. This is the kind of thing only an occult nerd like me would enjoy, but I can think of tons of friends and associates that would really get into this kind of book. Like, if you're reading this, then you'd probably dig the hell out of this book.
It is NOT a history of the Golden Dawn. I'm still on the hunt for a book length account of that interesting piece of history, but no luck so far.
It is, supposedly, the backbone of the rituals used in ceremonial magick performed by members of the Golden Dawn. I love reading about this stuff because nestled in those dry, meticulous notes and lectures are literally hundreds of story prompts. If I am to write about magick and the occult, it makes sense to know about these things from a variety of sources. This book is probably meant to be read beginning to end, but I'm going to just peruse it and take from it what I need.
Still reading the Lord of the Rings, and I'm actually enjoying it so far.
I'm off the Wednesday and Thursday, and we're chatting with one of the best, again, on the podcast Wednesday evening. Besides that I'll be writing my WIP and playing some Ghost of Tsushima.
Speaking of which ...
