The Lord of the Rings got a little whimsical on me. I'm still reading it, because it's really good, but I could do with a lot less of the singing. I get it, that stuff comes with the territory, and that's all nice, but it's just a little silly. I have to think the hobbits are like little headbanger rockers, and they really dig their little ditties, and they're gonna do like they do and there's nothing I can do about it except scan the lyrics and move on.

While looking through The Golden Dawn book, I realized a lot of magick is like using science with folklore. There are diagrams with circles and triangles that I didn't even look too hard at while flipping through the pages ... stuff looks like math to be honest, but it all seems very particular and specific. I do like the concept of ceremonial magick that relies on precision and due diligence, but I also like the concept that the rules were made to be played around with loose and fast and intent matters more than following directions. Perhaps a little bit of both is necessary. I've always thought about the notion of Murphy's Law playing into the magick, with rituals rarely working as intended, or working but with additional unintended consequences. Fun times for all, and that kind of stuff definitely falls into the 'fuck around and find out' category.

Off the play some Ghost of Tsishuma.
